The University of Virginia's McIntire School of Commerce offers a Master of Science in Commerce degree as part of its graduate programs office. This is, in part, related to Virginia's designation as a commonwealth of the United States. Candidates must be liberal arts, science, or engineering majors who have graduated with a bachelor's degree within twelve months of matriculation to the program and have little to no work experience. This gives applicants to the program an advantage over most MBA candidates who are generally required to have at least two years' work experience prior to enrollment. Additionally, McIntire's M.S. in Commerce program features a capstone project in place of thesis research in order to develop practical skills directly applicable to the workplace. Key program elements include:
McIntire’s Integrated Core Experience - integrated coursework, projects, and presentations that provide an enterprise-wide view of business.
Specialty tracks offering students the opportunity to develop a functional area of expertise in either Financial Services or Marketing & Management.
A two-semester seminar in management & leadership development to help students develop and align their unique management and leadership styles with career aspirations.
A global immersion experience requiring students to work and study in either Europe or Asia while applying their knowledge to the completion of a capstone project.
